A callus is a protective barrier your dog's body creates to cushion the bone/area from pressure. Your dog's overprotective ulna bone tries to protect the bony part of the elbow that hits the ground first. With every landing on a hard surface the ulna tells the skin to get thicker and thicker. Enough hard landings can cause the callus to become cracked, bloody, infected or ulcerated.
Our large/giant breed dogs (not fat shaming) put more force/weight into their landing, which multiplies the effects. Plus, bigger dogs may be hotter and want to relax on a hard, cool surface such as; concrete, tile, the deck or patio or good old dirt. It's a vicious callus creating cycle!
Elbow Butter is individually handcrafted for your dog by The Blissful Dog here in far northern Minnesota, using all natural and organic Shea Butter, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, Beeswax, Infusions of Chamomile, Calendula, Comfrey and St. John’s Wort Oil, plus a Dash of Essential Oils (Cedarwood, Cypress, Lavender and Orange).
Elbow Butter contains no active ingredients and will not harm your dog if they lick or eat some.
Elbow Butter is VERY thick and dense to penetrate and condition the thick callus tissue. A fluffy cream would not be effective.
